S-fold curtains, made to measure

S-fold curtains hang from a track in soft, even waves and fold neatly to one side when open. We make them in sheer or blockout fabric, to your size in Australia, priced as you design.

In the designer, choose S-Fold under Heading style.

Start with the look

Is S-fold right for you

S-fold is a curtain heading: the style at the top of a curtain. The fabric hangs in a row of soft S-shaped waves. You may also see it called wave fold.

Soft light and privacy by day

Choose an S-fold sheer. It softens the sun and stops people seeing in during the day.

A dark bedroom or media room

Choose an S-fold blockout. The fabric stops light coming through it.

Double curtains put two curtains on one double track, and both can be S-fold.

A formal or traditional room

A pinch pleat (fabric pinched into folds at the top) or a pencil pleat (tight gathers) may suit it better. The table below compares them.

Fullness is how much fabric goes across the track, as a multiple of the track width.

Fabrics

Light levels and fabrics

Every curtain is sheer or blockout. Pick a range, then a colour. Every swatch in the designer is a photo of the real fabric.

Sheer is a light, see-through fabric: soft light and privacy by day. At night, with the lights on, people can see shapes through it.

Blockout stops light coming through the fabric. A little still gets in around the edges.

Track

Fit and controls

Every curtain we make comes on its own track, cut to your width. You can’t order one without a track, so the heading and the track always match.

Top fit

Face fit

White sheer S-fold curtain on a track fixed to the wall above the window, falling to the floor
  • Where the track goes: on the ceiling, called top fit, for the cleanest line. Or on the wall above the window, called face fit, which adds $20.
  • Hand-drawn track: residential or designer, in white or black. Both are $60 a metre. They come with a wand, the slim rod you draw the curtain with, in 910, 1,220 or 1,520 mm.
  • Flow: fixed flow holds every wave at the same spacing, so the curtain looks the same each time you close it. It suits S-fold sheers. Free flow lets the waves hang more loosely.
  • Opening: one curtain that stacks left or right, or a pair that opens from the centre. The stack is the space the curtain takes up when it’s open.
  • Hem and length: a lead-weight hem helps a sheer hang straight, and a 70 mm hem suits blockout. Finish 20 mm off the floor, touching it, or puddled.

Measuring

How to measure

Measure the track, not the window. You need a steel tape and a few minutes per window.

  1. 01

    Width is the track length

Run the track at least 150 mm past the window frame on each side, so the open curtain stacks off the glass.

  2. 02

    Decide where the track goes

On the ceiling for the cleanest line, or on the wall above the window.

  3. 03

    Drop is track to hem

Measure from the track to where you want the hem. For puddled, we add 20 mm for you.

  4. 04

    Check the size

We make curtains from 800 mm to 5,750 mm wide, and 900 mm to 4,000 mm drop.

Motors

Motorised S-fold curtains

Open and close them with a remote. The motor is in the track, so S-fold works the same way.

  • Battery track: a Somfy Movelite track, with a charger and a Situo 1 remote. No electrician needed.
  • Wired track: a Somfy Glydea 35e track, with a Situo 1 remote. It never needs charging, but an electrician runs power to the window first.
  • Price: both motorised tracks are priced by width, and the designer adds it as you go.

FAQ

Questions

See all FAQs

Need new hooks or pendants? Spare parts for curtains

Is S-fold the same as wave fold?

Yes. They’re two names for the same heading: the curtain hangs in soft, even waves from its track.

Can I hang S-fold curtains on my existing track?

We make every curtain with its own track, cut to your width, so the heading and the track match. We don’t make curtains to hang on a track you already have.

How do I hang S-fold curtains?

Fix the track to the ceiling or the wall with the brackets supplied, then hook the curtain on. The instructions come in the box. Call 1300 195 797 if you get stuck.

How much fabric does an S-fold curtain use?

About twice the track width. You don’t need to work it out: enter the track width and we calculate the fabric.

Can S-fold curtains open from the middle?

Yes. Choose “Centre opening (a pair)” and you get two curtains that meet in the middle.

Sheer or blockout for S-fold?

Both work: a sheer softens the light by day, and a blockout darkens a bedroom. For both on one window, choose double curtains.

How long do S-fold curtains take?

We dispatch it 8 to 15 business days after you order.

Can I see the fabric before I order?

Yes. Order up to 10 free samples, posted free, and hold them at your own window before you decide.

What if I measure wrong?

Add the Perfect Fit Guarantee when you design it (+$39 a curtain). We video call you to check your measurements before we make it. If a measuring error means it still arrives the wrong size, we make it again.
