Tilted half-open, the slats let daylight in and stop people seeing in clearly.

Closed, they block most of the light. Raised, the whole window is clear.

Fit

Fit and controls

Recess fit means the blind sits inside the recess, the opening the window sits in. Face fit means it goes on the wall or frame, over the opening, and blocks more light around the edges.

  • Lift cord and tilt control: the cord raises the blind, and the tilt control angles the slats. Both hang on one side.
  • Cord side: left or right, as you look from inside the room. Pick the side you can reach without leaning over furniture.
  • Hold-down clips: for a door, or a window that opens inwards. They pin the bottom rail, which is the bar at the base, so the blind doesn’t swing.
  • Care: timber only needs a dust. Keep it out of steamy rooms.

Cords must be fitted so they can't hang in a loop within a child's reach. That's Australia's mandatory child-safety standard for corded window coverings, and our install guide shows how.

Measuring

How to measure

You need a steel tape measure and a few minutes per window.

  1. 01

    Recess fit

    Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and use the smallest. Measure the drop on the left, middle and right, and use the smallest. We take off a small allowance so the blind runs freely.

  2. 02

    Face fit

    Measure the area you want covered. Go at least 50 mm past the recess on each side, and at the top and bottom.

  3. 03

    Check the size

    We make timber venetians from 240 mm up to 2,400 mm wide, and 300 mm to 2,600 mm drop. The designer tells you straight away if a size won’t work.

Are timber venetians the same as wooden venetian blinds?

Yes. Timber, wooden and wood venetian blinds all mean slats made of real timber. Ours are the Purewood range, made in Australia to your sizes.

Can I put timber venetians in a bathroom?

We don’t recommend it. Timber is for dry rooms. In a bathroom, kitchen or laundry, choose PVC or aluminium venetians: they handle steam and wipe clean.

What colours do timber venetians come in?

Four: Aspen, Beech, Birch and Chesnut, as the designer shows them today. Order free samples to see them at your window.

How big can you make a timber venetian?

From 240 mm up to 2,400 mm wide, and 300 mm to 2,600 mm drop. For a wider window, use two blinds side by side.
