A sliding door

Fit it on the wall above the opening. Draw the vanes (the upright strips) to the side you don’t walk through.

Privacy without closing it

Tilt the vanes half-open. Daylight comes in, but people can’t see in clearly.

No loose cords at the door

Choose the wand: one rod turns the vanes and draws them across.

A dark bedroom

Light gets through between the vanes. A blockout roller blind does a better job: blockout fabric stops light.

Fabrics

Blockout fabrics

Every vertical blind we make uses blockout fabric, so the vanes stop light. Light still gets in between the vanes. Every swatch in the configurator is a photo of the real fabric.

Blockout stops light coming through the fabric. A little still gets in around the edges.

Enter your width and drop. The drop is the height you want covered.

Then pick the vane width (a vane is an upright strip), fabric, colour and control. The price updates with every choice.

Fit

Fit and controls

Face fit means the blind goes on the wall or frame, above the opening. Most vertical blinds go there. Recess fit, inside the opening, needs a deep recess because the vanes hang below the track.

Face fit

Recess fit

Recess fit: the blind sits inside the window frame.

  • Vanes: 127 mm is standard and takes the least space when open. 89 mm looks finer on small windows and costs a little more.
  • Weights: chainless weights are standard, one in each vane. Sewn-in weights hide inside the hem for a cleaner line.
  • Control: a wand turns and draws the vanes with one rod. Or a chain tilts them and a cord draws them. The chain comes in white, black or grey.
  • Stack: the space the vanes take up when open. Choose left, right, centre, or split from the centre.
  • Track: the rail the vanes hang from, in anodised, white or black. Match it to the window frame.

Cords and chains must be fitted so they can't hang in a loop within a child's reach. That's Australia's mandatory child-safety standard for corded window coverings, and our install guides show how.

Measuring

How to measure

You need a steel tape measure and a few minutes per window.

  1. 01

    Where it goes

Most vertical blinds go on the wall above the opening. Decide that first.

  2. 02

    Width

Measure the full width you want covered. The vanes stack to the side, so a wide door is fine.

  3. 03

    Drop

Measure from the top of the track to where the vanes should finish. Leave a small gap above the floor. We make them up to 5,775 mm wide and 3,650 mm drop.

Questions

Need a new vane hanger or end cap? Spare parts for vertical blinds

Are vertical blinds still a good choice?

For wide windows and sliding doors, yes. The vanes stack to one side so the door opens fully, and they tilt for privacy without closing the whole blind.

What are the downsides of vertical blinds?

Light gets through between the vanes, so they won’t make a room dark. When open, the vanes stack beside the door, so choose the side that keeps your path clear.

Which vertical blind suits a sliding door?

Fit it on the wall above the opening. Stack it away from the side you walk through, and choose the wand if you want no loose cords.

Are your vertical blinds blockout?

Yes, all of them. We only make vertical blinds in blockout fabric: Focus, Vibe and Balmoral. Light still passes between the vanes, so for a dark bedroom choose a roller blind or curtains.

What is the difference between 89 mm and 127 mm vanes?

127 mm is standard and takes the least space when open. 89 mm looks finer on small windows and costs a little more.

Should I choose the wand or the chain?

The wand turns and draws the vanes with one rod, and leaves no loose cords. Chain and cord splits the jobs: the chain turns the vanes and the cord draws them.

How much do vertical blinds cost for a sliding door?

It depends on the width, drop and fabric range. The card above shows today’s starting price, and the configurator prices your sizes as you go.

How long do vertical blinds take?

We dispatch it 8 to 15 business days after you order.

Can I see the fabric before I order?

Yes. Order up to 10 free samples, posted free, and hold them at your own window before you decide.

What if I measure wrong?

Add the Perfect Fit Guarantee when you design it (+$19 a blind). We video call you to check your measurements before we make it. If a measuring error means it still arrives the wrong size, we make it again.

Not sure about the colour?
