Frames
The frame is what the panels hang in. Inside the reveal needs at least 65 mm of depth, so the louvres clear the glass. On the face, called a face fit, suits shallow, tiled or out-of-square windows.
- L frame (48 R): sits inside the reveal and returns onto the face. The standard choice for an inside fit.
- Bullnose face frame (48 FZ): a rounded frame that covers the edge of the opening. The usual choice for a face fit.
- Flat face frame (62 F): a wider, flat frame, for wide trims or an uneven surround.
- U channel: a slim channel at the top and bottom, for fixed panels only.
- Frame sides: a full frame goes all the way round. Three-sided leaves the sill open, so you can still use it.
- Colour: both shutters come in white. Hold your trims up to the options in the designer before you choose.

Panels, layouts and mid rails
A shutter is a set of panels in a frame. You choose how many panels, how they open, and whether they have mid rails.
Inside the reveal
On the face
- How many panels: one to four. Wider windows need more panels, and the designer only shows the options that suit your width.
- Which way they open: L and R are panels hinged on the left or right, and F is a fixed panel. T is a post between panels. D is a panel that folds onto the one beside it.
- Mid rails: a bar across the panel, so the top and bottom louvres tilt separately. The designer recommends one above 1.8 m tall.
- Hinged or fixed: hinged panels swing open so you can clean the glass. Fixed panels don’t open, but the louvres still tilt.
- No cords: shutters have no cords or chains hanging at the window.

How to measure
You need a steel tape measure and a few minutes per window.

Measure in three places
Use a steel tape and work in millimetres. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the drop on the left, centre and right.

Inside the reveal
Give us the smallest width and drop, and measure both diagonals. If they differ by more than 5 mm, the opening is out of square, and a face frame is safer.

On the face
Give us the outside size of the frame you want. We make shutters from 250 mm to 3,000 mm wide, and 280 mm to 2,700 mm drop.

Delivery and returnsWhat’s the difference between your two shutters?
Both are PVC plantation shutters with the same frames, layouts and sizes. The Australian PVC Plantation Shutter has an aluminium core inside its louvres and stiles. The PVC Plantation Shutter is solid PVC and starts at a lower price.
What are the downsides of plantation shutters?
They usually cost more than a blind for the same window. Hinged panels swing into the room, so check nothing is in the way, or choose fixed panels. And they don’t black a room out: light gets in at the edges and between the louvres.
How much do plantation shutters cost?
It depends on the size, the frame, the number of panels and any mid rails. Each card above shows today’s starting price, and the designer prices your sizes as you go.
Can I fit plantation shutters myself?
Yes: the frame screws into the reveal or onto the wall, then the panels drop onto their hinges. Adjust them until they sit square. You’ll need a drill, a level and a second pair of hands.
Are PVC shutters good for bathrooms?
Yes. PVC handles steam, and it wipes clean with a damp cloth and a mild soap. Choose fixed panels if the window never opens.
Should shutters go inside the reveal or on the face?
Inside the reveal looks built-in, but it needs at least 65 mm of depth and a square opening. If the reveal is shallow or tiled, or the diagonals differ by more than 5 mm, fit them on the face.
Do plantation shutters block out all the light?
No. Closed louvres give privacy and cut most of the light, but some gets in at the edges. For a dark bedroom, choose a blockout roller blind.
How long do shutters take?
Plantation shutters take 4–6 weeks. Delivery is quoted by size at checkout, and you see it before you pay.
What warranty do I get?
Five years on every shutter, covering materials, mechanisms and workmanship.
