All seven fabric ranges come in both light levels. Every swatch in the configurator is a photo of the real fabric. A roman uses more fabric than a roller, so it costs more in the same range.

Fit

Fit and controls

Recess fit means the blind sits inside the recess, the opening the window sits in. Face fit means it goes on the wall or frame, over the opening.

  • Chain drive (our pick): an Acmeda SS38 chain lifts smoothly and holds the blind at any height. The chain is included, and stainless steel suits homes near the coast.
  • Cord and cleat: the cord winds round a cleat, a small hook on the wall. A plastic cleat and timber acorn are included; brass and chrome cost a little extra.
  • Cord lock: a swivel lock holds the cord wherever you let go.
  • Control side: the side the chain or cord hangs, as you look from inside the room. Pick the side you can reach easily.

Cords and chains must be fitted so they can't hang in a loop within a child's reach. That's Australia's mandatory child-safety standard for corded window coverings, and our install guides show how.

Measuring

How to measure

You need a steel tape measure and a few minutes per window.

    Width

    Measure at the top, where the brackets (the fittings that hold the blind up) go. Recess fit: give us the exact opening. Face fit: give us the width you want covered.

  2. 02

    Drop

    Measure from where the top of the blind will sit to where you want it to finish.

  3. 03

    Check the size

    We make roman blinds up to 3,000 mm wide and 3,000 mm drop. The configurator tells you straight away if a size won’t work.

Are roman blinds blockout?

They can be. In the configurator, Blockout is the fabric that stops light, and Light filtering gives soft light with privacy by day. All seven ranges come in both.

What are the downsides of roman blinds?

A raised roman stacks into folds at the top, so it still covers the top of the glass. On a short window, a roller blind keeps more of the view. Fabric also needs a gentle clean: a vacuum brush or a damp cloth.

Do roman blinds cost more than roller blinds?

Yes. In the same fabric range, a roman costs more because it uses more fabric. Put your sizes into both configurators to compare.

How big can you make a roman blind?

Up to 3,000 mm wide and 3,000 mm drop. For a wider window, use two blinds side by side.

Should I choose chain or cord?

We recommend the chain drive. It lifts smoothly and holds the blind at any height. Cord and cleat is the traditional look, and a cord lock holds the cord where you let go.

Can I fit a roman blind myself?

How long does a roman blind take?
