Sheer curtains, made to measure

Sheer curtains soften daylight and give you privacy by day without darkening the room. We make them to your size in Australia, priced as you design.

In the designer, pick Sheer, then a fabric range and a colour.

White S-fold sheer curtains drawn across a wall of windows in a bright lounge room

Start with the light

Is a sheer right for you

A sheer is a light, see-through curtain. By day it softens the sun, cuts glare and stops people seeing in, and the room stays bright.

Soft light and privacy by day

A sheer on its own suits lounge rooms, dining areas and kitchens.

A dark bedroom

Choose blockout fabric instead: it stops light coming through the curtain.

Blockout curtains

Privacy at night as well

With the lights on at night, people can see shapes through a sheer. Add a blockout curtain behind it.

Double curtains

A sheer over a blind

Keep a blockout roller blind on the glass and hang a sheer in front.

The downsides of sheer curtains

  • No privacy at night with the lights on. People outside can see shapes through it.
  • It won’t darken a room, so it won’t help a bedroom sleep in.
  • It adds only a little warmth at the glass.

The usual fix is a second layer: double curtains, or a blockout roller blind behind the sheer.

Fabrics

Sheer fabrics and colours

We make sheer curtains in 6 ranges, 70 colours in all. Every swatch in the designer is a photo of the real fabric, and any colour can be posted to you free.

Hold a sample beside the window in daylight and again at night. A white can look grey beside a warm cream wall.

Priced as you design

Design yours and see the price

Choose Sheer, a range and a colour, then enter the track width and the drop (the height from the track to the hem). The price updates with every choice.

Heading and track

Fit and controls

Every curtain we make comes on its own track (the rail it hangs from), cut to your width. So the heading and the track always match.

Top fit

Sheer S-fold curtains falling in even waves from a ceiling track to the floor

Face fit

The track is fixed to the wall above the window, over the frame.

  • Where the track goes: on the ceiling (top fit) for the cleanest line, or on the wall above the window (face fit).
  • The track: hand-drawn, in white or black, opened with a wand (a slim rod). Or motorised, with a remote.
  • Flow: fixed flow keeps every wave evenly spaced. Free flow lets the folds hang loosely.
  • Opening: one curtain that draws to the left or right, or a pair that opens from the centre.
  • Hem: choose the lead-weight hem: a fine chain sewn in so a sheer hangs straight.
  • Length: 20 mm off the floor, touching it, or puddled for a soft break.

Measuring

How to measure

Measure the track, not the window. You need a steel tape and a few minutes per window.

  1. 01

    Width is the track length

Run the track at least 150 mm past the window frame on each side, so the open curtain stacks off the glass.

  2. 02

    Decide where the track goes

On the ceiling for the cleanest line, or on the wall above the window.

  3. 03

    Drop is track to hem

The drop is the height to cover: measure from the track to where you want the hem. For puddled, we add 20 mm.

  4. 04

    Check the size

We make curtains from 800 mm to 5,750 mm wide, and 900 mm to 4,000 mm drop.

Motors

Motorised sheer curtains

Open and close them with a remote. The motor sits in the track.

  • Battery track: a Somfy Movelite track with a charger and a Situo 1 remote. No electrician, and it charges a few times a year.
  • Wired track: a Somfy Glydea 35e track with a Situo 1 remote. It never needs charging, but an electrician runs power to the window first.
  • Price: both motorised tracks are priced by width, and the designer adds it as you go.

FAQ

Questions

See all FAQs

Need new hooks or pendants? Spare parts for curtains

Can people see through sheer curtains at night?

Yes, once the lights are on inside. A sheer gives privacy by day, but at night people outside can see shapes through it. Add a blockout layer for privacy at night.

Are sheer blinds the same as sheer curtains?

Not quite. A sheer curtain hangs from a track and draws to the side. If you’d rather have a blind, choose a light-filtering roller blind: it softens the light and stops people seeing in by day.

Do I need a special track for sheer curtains?

No. Every curtain we make comes with its own track, cut to your width, so the heading and the track always match. You choose a hand-drawn or a motorised track in the designer.

How long should sheer curtains be?

Your choice of three: 20 mm off the floor, just touching it, or puddled. Measure the drop from the track to where you want the hem. Choose puddled and we add 20 mm for you.

How long do sheer curtains take?

We dispatch them 8 to 15 business days after you order. Free samples post separately and never hold up an order.

Can I see the fabric before I order?

Yes. Order up to 10 free samples, posted free, and hold them at your own window before you decide.

What if I measure wrong?

Add the Perfect Fit Guarantee when you design it (+$39 a curtain). We video call you to check your measurements before we make it. If a measuring error means it still arrives the wrong size, we make it again.
